Midwest Living Magazine presented their Hometown Pride Award to the group

Many damp people showed up today.

August 28, 1998
APPRECIATION DAY was sponsored by the Oblong Lake Restoration Committee to dedicate the Wall and honor all the people that made the dream of a new lake a reality. The Lake Committee served free hot dogs, chips, cookies, and Pepsi products for everyone at the celebration. Midwest Living Magazine presented their Hometown Pride Award to the group along with a check for $1,000. Gwenda Lanter had submitted the application for this award describing the efforts of the volunteers in restoring the six and a half acre lake. Besides the cash prize the project would be featured in the October issue of Midwest Living. Chuck Hartke announced that he had secured a grant of $50,000, to be used toward the Lake Restoration Project. This was a very happy and enjoyable day for the committee, who had been meeting once a week during the past year to plan fund raisers and project goals.
