Village of Oblong

The Village of Oblong Board of Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, October 5th, 2016, in the Farley Room of the Municipal Building.

Members Present: Mayor Randy Rich, Clerk Ladora Boyd, Trustee Rick Catt, Trustee Dave Hasty, Trustee Jay Haines, Trustee Ken Russell, Trustee Teresa Fielder, Trustee Debi Wilson and Treasurer/Deputy Clerk Jan Miller.
Others Present: Oblong Police Chief Chad Pusey, Public Works Superintendent Gary Lanter, Chris Dewitt (WTYE/WTAY), Tom Compton (Daily News) and Alex Pleasant (Crawford County Development Association).

The meeting was called to order at 7 pm by Mayor Rich; with everyone standing and saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Regular Board Meeting Minutes of September 7th, 2016, were approved with a motion by Teresa, and a second by Ken. All ayes, motion carried.

There was one addition to the agenda this month. Randy stated that Gary had an estimate on the roof for the recycle building. Gary stated that the estimate was under $600 and that Oblong Township will pay for half of the cost. Motion by Dave, with a second by Rick, for the Village to pay half of the cost of reroofing the Recycle Building. All ayes, motion carried.

There were no Delinquent Water Bill customers at this month’s meeting.

Gary stated that the Community Service Club “Oldies in the Park” has been reschedule for October 8th from 6 pm to 10 pm (this is the 16th year for this event). The Board granted the request.

Rick stated that the Finance Committee met at 6 pm tonight to look over the Village’s Property/Liability/Workers’ Comp Insurance bids. He stated that the committee will be having another committee meeting to talk with the representatives from the insurance company to ask some questions before deciding on which company to go with. The Decision will be at the next monthly Board meeting.

Randy stated that the Village had received an application from Stan and Teresa Levitt for a Mobile Home to be located at 408 West Iowa Street, Oblong. Motion by Teresa, with a second by Jay, to approve the Mobile Home application. All ayes, motion carried.

Mayor’s Comments:
Randy wanted to remind everyone about Fall Clean-Up on October 20th. Everything needs to be bagged, boxed or bundled and no car parts, chemicals, appliance with Freon, construction material and yard waste.
Randy also wanted to remind everyone that Trick or Treat Night for the Village is October 31st from 5 pm to 8 pm and only houses with their porchlight on.

Reports of Committees:
Police: Teresa stated that she had nothing to report this month.

Building and Park: Debi stated that she had nothing to report this month. Gary stated that he wants to have a Committee meeting before the next month’s Board Meeting. Gary stated that Joe Stephenson has approached him about possibly putting in sewer hook-ups for campers at the campground (if the Fair Board could get grants to pay for the supplies; then the Fair Board would like for the Village to put the hook-ups in).

Sidewalks and Lights: Dave stated that he had nothing to report this month. Gary stated that the Village is paying for the Downtown Speaker System electricity year round and wondered about shutting it off when the system is not in use. The Board stated that they would not have a problem with turning the electric off when the speakers are not in use.

Street and Alley: Jay stated that the Chip-n-Seal has been done for this year. Gary stated that there has been an issue with grass being thrown into the streets that have curbs and storm drain grates, which cause problems with the storm sewers and also with the algae at the Lake due to run-off. He stated that Chad has talked with the individuals about the ordinances against throwing the grass into the streets with curbs. Gary stated that he wanted to let the Board know about the issue.

Water and Sewer: Ken stated that he had nothing to report this month.

Finance: Rick stated that he had nothing else to report this month.

Development: There was nothing to report this month.

Motion by Jay, with a second by Teresa, to pay the bills that were on the warranty list and any utility bills, bills that will incur a late charge or reimbursements to employees. All ayes, motion carried.

There were no other items of business this month

Motion by Rick, with a second by Jay, to adjourn the meeting at 7:12 pm. All ayes, motion carried.
