Village of Oblong

The Village of Oblong Board of Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, May 6th, 2020, in the Activity Center Room of the Municipal Building.

Members Present: Mayor Teresa Fielder, Clerk Ladora Boyd, Trustee Angie Fear, Trustee Jay Haines, Trustee Dave Hasty, Trustee Bill Burke, Trustee Keith Waldrop, Trustee Jeron Harris and Treasurer Jan Miller,
Others Present: Public Works Superintendent Gary Lanter and Police Chief Chad Pusey.

The meeting was called to order at 7 pm by Mayor Fielder with everyone standing for the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Regular Board Meeting Minutes of April 15th, 2020, were approved with a motion by Keith and a second by Dave. All ayes, motion carried.

There were no additions or deletions to the agenda this month.

There were no Delinquent Water Bill customers at the meeting this month.

Motion by Jeron, with a second by Bill, to adopt Ordinance #2020-O-612 “An Ordinance Adopting A Revised Code of Ordinances for the Village of Oblong, Illinoi”. All ayes, motion carried.

Mayor’s Comments:

Teresa mentioned that on Friday, May 8th, there will be a Thank You Parade for the workers at Ridgeview Care Center. Anyone wanting to participate needs to be at the Oblong High School parking lot by 1:30pm with their golf carts or UTVs.

Teresa mentioned that the Spring Clean-up by Republic will be May 28th.

Teresa mentioned that the next Ad-Hoc Committee Meeting will be June 24th, at 3:30 pm.

Teresa stated that she had spoken with Dan Lovin, the speaker for the Jack Fancil Memorial stated that he was available any Sunday in June and July 5th or 12th.

Reports of Committees:

Police: Jay stated that he had nothing to report for this month. Chad stated that the department will be back to normal patrolling.

Building & Park: Keith stated that he had nothing new to report this month. He did ask if the new Watercraft sign was up at the Lake. Gary stated that it was.

Sidewalks & Lights: Bill stated that he had nothing to report this month.

Street & Alley: Angie stated that she had nothing to report this month.

Water & Sewer: Dave stated that the delinquent water bills list is up. Gary stated that the letter that was sent out last month seemed to help with the late bills. He stated that the late bill letters this month will be about the same wording. Dave stated that the department is working on the replacement of older meters again.

Finance: Jeron stated that the loan paperwork for the new police squad vehicle is being finished up, The loan will be through 1st National Bank in Olney at the Oblong Branch..

Development: Bill stated that he had no new updates. He will be sending the new covenant for Park Meadow Subdivision to Mr. Colmark for his signature.

Ad Hoc (Dilapidated/Unsafe Buildings & Ordinances): Teresa stated that there have been some problems with high grass, with letters sent. The letters did help with some of the high grass issues but Chad has issued tickets to those that were not taken care of. She stated that if there are some that are not on the watch list to let her know. Teresa mentioned that the property located at 201 South Taylor Street is scheduled to be sold on May 20th, at a Marshal’s sale.

Motion by Jay, with a second by Angie, to pay the bills that were on the warranty list and any utility bills, bills that will incur a late charge or reimbursements to employees. All ayes, motion carried.

There was one other item of business this month. Teresa present copies of “Illinois Back to Business” time line with 3 phases. COVID-19 COMPLAINT PROTOCOL and COVID-19 RESTAURANT PROTOCOL to the Board. There was some discussion on this issue. Motion by Bill, with a second by Keith, to have Teresa be the contact person for the Village on the opening of non-essential business following the “Illinois Back to Business” phases. All ayes, motion carried.

Motion by Jeron, with a second by Jay, to adjourn the meeting at 8:04 pm. All ayes, motion carried.
